Sometimes a travelogue, sometimes just a vehicle for wistful thinking about Italy or France . . . always ready to go back again.

Are we on our way yet?

Well, I've been working on this trip for exactly one year. 20 days, 19 nights in northern Italy with grown-up women (no cattiness, no bitching!), some of whom are good friends, one repeat traveler from our trip two years ago, and a couple brave souls who didn't know anyone, even me!

My group was fairly well set by last July, and that made me very happy. Nothing like women who make decisions quickly once they know they want to do something. The ones who agonized over it all will have to wait until another year to travel this route with me.

So we have had four gatherings, which have created early friendships among 10 women who didn't know one another. I have always hated the idea of blogs, but I have been convinced that this will be a good way to keep track of our trip, let family and friends back in the crumbling US of A to keep in touch with me and with what's happening in my beloved heart country, Italy!

So this is a first post, just to get the hang of it and see if everything works well.

Ciao, grazie mille for checking this one out. Many adventures ahead!

Well, I didn't mean "do someone", clearly . . . I meant "do something"! I see that I will have to watch my flying fingers before I complete each post. . .

As a fellow lifetime journaler, there's no reason to hate the blog. It's really just another journal. Or like your famous year end holiday letter, which we all enjoy, just more frequently, read by a wider group! Though journaling is private, I can't think of a journaler who has not fantasized about maybe publishing something, or having something of what they write reach and affect people beyond their daily scope. Blogging can reach people you'd never affect other wise, and you will be delighted to no end to read comments, even funky ones. It's a little like seeing your work self published. I have always been drawn to books of letters between two artists or writers, and journals kept by others, even novels in first person. Hate the blog no more, it can be all of these things, and more. I'm sure I speak for many on your list when I say how much I'm looking forward to reading it! XX, Rock
